Biography


Spanish baritone Alberto Martínez (Almendralejo, 1986) studied flute and singing at the Conservatory of Salamanca, received a Master in opera performance at the Conservatory "Joaquín Rodrigo" of Valencia and a postgraduate diploma at the International Opera Academy in Ghent (Belgium). He was also part of the Académie du Festival d'Aix en-Provence working in the opera creation residency "Opéra de-ci de-là" directed by Anthony Heidweiller. Among others, he studied with David Menéndez, Dietrich Henschel, Deborah Polaski, Ofelia Sala, Javier San Miguel, Manuel Burgueras and Gary Jankowski.


He performed opera roles like Guglielmo in Così fan tutte (W.A. Mozart), Nardo in La finta giardiniera, (W.A. Mozart), Belcore in L´Elisir d´amore (G. Donizetti), The drunken poet and The winter in The Fairy Queen, Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas (H. Purcell), Schaunard in La Bohème (G. Puccini), The tittle role in Brundibar (H. Krása), Otto/Allen Lake in LoveMusik (K. Weill), Brabantische Edle in Lohengrin (R. Wagner), L'horloge / Le chat in L'enfant et les sortilèges and the tittle role in Gianni Schicchi (G. Puccini) He also performed zarzuela roles like Ricardo Martín in El Barbero de Sevilla (Giménez and Nieto), Lamparilla in El barberillo de Lavapiés (F.A. Barbieri) and Joaquín in La del Manojo de Rosas (P. Sorozábal).

He sang several oratorio masterpieces including Messiah (G.F. Händel), Weihnachts-Oratorium (J. S. Bach), Requiem (G. Fauré), Requiem (W.A. Mozart), Lazarus, oder Die Feier der Auferstehung (F. Schubert), Ein Deutsches Requiem (J. Brahms) and different cantatas by J.S. Bach within the project “Bach Studium” conducted by Alfonso Sebastián. He worked with conductors Javier Castro (Ars Nova), Eduardo López Banzo (Al Ayre Español), Jordi Francés (Sociedad Filarmónica de Badajoz), Alejo Pérez (Opera Vlaanderen), Benjamin Haemhouts (Casco Phil), Filip Rathé (Spectra Ensemble) and Korneel Bernolet (Apotheosis) and directors David Alden, Darren Ross, Lucija Brnic, Guy Joosten, Wolfgang Gruber, Jorinde Keesmaat, Gemma Beltrán, Cristina Silveira and Paco Azorín.
