Alberto Martínez, baritone

Spanish baritone Alberto Martínez (Almendralejo, 1986) studied flute and singing at the Conservatory of Salamanca and received a Master in opera performance at the Conservatory of Valencia. He studied with David Menéndez, Dietrich Henschel, Ofelia Sala, Javier San Miguel, and Manuel Burgueras, among others. In 2017 he was selected for the International Opera Academy in Ghent (Belgium), where he attended a two-year postgraduate course.

He performed Guglielmo in Così fan tutte (W.A. Mozart), Nardo in La finta giardiniera, (W.A. Mozart), The drunken poet and The winter in The Fairy Queen (H. Purcell), Schaunard in La Bohème (G. Puccini), Brundibar in Brundibar (H. Krása), Brabantische Edle in Lohengrin (R. Wagner), Golaud in Petit Pelléas (an opera for children based on Pelléas et Mélisande by C. Debussy) and L´horloge / Le chat in L´enfant et les sortilèges (M. Ravel) He also performed zarzuela roles like Ricardo Martín in El Barbero de Sevilla (Gimenez and Nieto), Lamparilla in El barberillo de Lavapiés (F.A. Barbieri) and Joaquín in La del Manojo de Rosas (P. Sorozabal).

He sang several oratorio masterpieces, including Messiah (G.F. Händel), Requiem (G. Fauré), Requiem (W.A. Mozart), Lazarus, oder die Feier der Auferstehug s (F. Schubert) and different cantatas by J.S. Bach within the project “Bach Studium”, conducted by Alfonso Sebastián. He worked with conductors Javier Castro, Jordi Francés, Eduardo López Banzo, Alejo Pérez and Korneel Bernolet and directors David Alden, Darren Ross, Lucija Brnic, Guy Joosten, Wolfgang Gruber, Jorinde Keesmaat, and Gemma Beltrán.

Alberto has performed in theaters and auditoriums such as Teatro Liceo de Salamanca, Teatro Principal de Burgos, Auditorio Nacional de Música de Madrid, Palau de la Música and Palau de les Arts ‘Reina Sofía’ de Valencia, Miry Concertzaal and Minardschowburg and Muziekcentrum De Bijloke in Ghent, Bozar in Brussels and the Kunsthuis Opera Vlaanderen in Antwerp and Ghent.
